South Carolina Officials Asking for
Help with Uranium in Wells

Greenville, SC- Tuesday, July 17, 2001

State officials in South Carolina are calling for statewide well testing and help from the federal government after residents in the upstate were found to have elevated levels of uranium in their bodies from drinking well water.

State Sen. David Thomas, R- Greenville, has asked the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) to conduct a statewide evaluation. "Right now, this is a huge unknown. We do not know how extensive the problem is," Sen. Thomas was quoted as saying.
